I turned 26, on February 22nd so I thought I would share a few of the lessons learned in the past year. Being 25 was pretty amazing, and I’m looking forward to what 26 brings!
1.Find ways to be grateful every single day
At the beginning of 2017, I made an effort to think about what I was grateful for each day. If I didn’t get a chance to write in my notebook, I at least took time reflect on my blessings. This practice instantly improved my day. Gratitude and positive affirmations really changed my outlook on life.
2.Don’t just intake information, apply it!
Before I started the Boss Lady Brand, I thought I needed to read a million articles on how to blog. All of those resources are great but useless without action.
3.Block heels > skinny heels
Whoever made these trendy, both me and my feet thank you! I haven’t bought a pair of skinny heels since discovering how much more comfortable block heels are.
4.Minimalism isn’t so bad
Over the last year or so, I’ve attempted to make it work with what I have. I don’t need new work outfits when I barely go into the office. Or I even cut down on hair products. My natural girls know how hard it is to resist trying out the latest products that promise you 8 inches of hair growth overnight (totally kidding about this product–but if you know of one that does this, let a girl know!)
5.Get off your phone
As a millennial, we’ve basically been brought up in the digital age. But sometimes you need to take time to focus on yourself and what is going in your real life instead of what everyone else is doing.
6.Eating healthy and drinking water does actually benefit you (who knew?! lol)
Ok, I’ve always known this, but I really think being more conscious of what I put into my body has helped me in many ways. I had minimal breakouts and my hair was flourishing this year. I don’t obsess over what I eat, but I generally try to be aware of where my food comes from. I also just feel better about myself when I eat healthily.

7.People are really rooting for you
Over the past year, I have really grown to appreciate the people around even more than I did before. Whether the goal has been large or small, I can always count on their support. Shout out to everyone in my corner!
8.You can accomplish anything you set your mind to
Even though that sounds cliché, it is true! When you’re a kid and someone asks what you want to be when you grow up you just pick what you love and don’t about limitations. Why is that so hard to do now?
9.Progress is better than perfection
Nothing is ever going to be perfect. For me, perfectionism is really another word for procrastination. So as Nike says, Just do it!
10.Save as much as you can…
And then save some more. Besides the regular life things that came up (like needing an entirely new set of tires), I quickly learned how expensive planning a wedding is!
11.You are exactly where you need to be in life
I remember when I was younger I thought I would be a “Real Adult” by now. But I’m still working on that–whatever it means lol. Either way, I know I can’t rush my future and I’ll figure out everything at the right time. My favorite scripture says
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” ( Jeremiah 29:11)
With this reassurance, I never stress about what is next or compare my path to anyone else’s. I can’t wait to see what lessons this year holds! I hope you enjoyed these lessons learned!
