Starting your morning with intention will help you have the most successful day. Your morning routine can be critical to your success. When you start with your day with intention, you get to live your life being proactive instead of reactive. When you are constantly reacting to life, you’re just letting life happen to you! These tips will help you have a successful morning which will set up your day and in turn your life!
Go to Bed Early
In order for you to be able to wake up at a decent time, you need to go to bed on time! I know that seems like a pretty basic tip, but plenty of people (including myself) end up staying up later than they should and wonder why waking up early is such a struggle. Your body still needs to be well rested in order to have a successful day.
Prepare the evening before
As much as you can get done at night, you should! That includes making your lunch, laying out your clothes or preparing your breakfast. You want to be able to wake up and start the day without any excuses. The easier you make it for yourself to get your day started, the easier it will be to get up.
Schedule your day and see what you have to look forward to the next day!
Make time for personal time
For most people, when it is early in the morning there are less distractions. Especially if you have kids or needy pets take advantage of a few minutes to have your own clear and uninterrupted thoughts. You deserve time to yourself without getting email or text notifications where people are requesting things from you.
I like to use this time for prayer time and to meditate!
Hydrate
Your body has just gone 7-8 hours without water! That is crazy when you think about it — You wouldn’t go the whole workday without drinking water would you? So when you wake up for the day, your body needs hydration that isn’t just coffee! Getting hydrated is an essential part of any morning routine.
If plain water is a challenge for you, you can always infuse it with lemon or cucumber or other fruits that might make it a little more tasty.
Read
Whether you want to catch up on current events, check out my latest blog post :), or read a book, reading in the morning can really help to get your brain going. I personally like to read a devotional daily, right now I am loving this Jesus Calling Devotional, and I try to read a few pages of whatever book I’m reading at the moment.
Exercise
Ok, so I don’t personally do a full workout in the morning, but I know some people that do! Even though working out is not part of my morning routine, I do still make a point to exercise 4 times a week. You might not want to be doing cardio early in the day, but you can always squeeze in a couple of stretches. Stretching is so great for your body.
Eat
After you have rehydrated yourself, your body needs some kind of fuel for the day. Whether you make a smoothie or a full hot breakfast, find what works for you and look forward to refueling your body to accomplish all the great things. This is also a great time to take any supplements you have such as vitamins!
Make the bed
If you make your bed, you’ve already accomplished at least one thing for the day! Making your bed can get you on the roll for wanting to tackle the rest of your to-do list. I personally love coming back to a clean space when I have been gone for the day.
Review your priorities
We all feel like there are not enough hours in the day, but we have to really focus on what our priorities are. Even if your to-do list has 50 tasks on it, narrow it down to just the top 3 items to complete. When you do that, you will still feel accomplished even if you only get those 3 items done because those were your priorities and getting anything accomplished outside of that for the day was a bonus!
Positive Affirmations
I have an entire blog post linked here where I provide a full list of positive affirmations that can boost your confidence. Positive affirmations can really help to set your intention for the day and set a positive tone. When you say “Today is going to be a great day” your mind is already working to put that into action.
These are the steps I take to have not only a successful morning, but a successful day! What’s something you have to do your morning routine?
