Are you debating whether or not you should start blogging? If you’re thinking about starting a blog, and are on the fence and any of these items apply to you then blogging might not be for you! I fully support anyone wanting to start a blog, but really only if your heart is in it! You have to do it for the right reasons. Blogging is really SO much more involved than I anticipated. Which for me, isn’t a bad thing, I’ve just had to adjust my approach and reconfigure my time management. If you really want to make this whole blogging thing work then it will be worth it!
If you agree with the majority of these statements, then you shouldn’t start blogging.
1.You don’t like hard work
I can’t tell you the number of times I have underestimated how long it would take me to create a new blog post. When start blogging you don’t realize how many steps there are. In my head I think “All I have to do is write it” but that is honestly the easy part. If you want to have a blog that people will actually read you need to research topics and keywords before even writing the post.
Then you need to actually write the content, provide links in the content, ensure the SEO is correct, and structure the layout. All of those steps don’t even include taking pictures, editing and configuring them within the blog post. These are just the steps before you hit publish but there are several other steps after the world has access to your post. I’m not saying all of this to scare you, but to say if you want to produce quality content, you can’t just throw anything together.
2.You don’t actually like writing
This one is pretty simple. If you don’t like to write then you’re going to hate blogging. But this doesn’t mean you can’t figure out how another medium to get your message out. Maybe writing podcasts aren’t the way to go but you can do either podcasts, Youtube or focus on Instagram.
3.You’re concerned with what other people are going to think
No matter what you do in life, good or bad people are going to have an opinion. But their opinion doesn’t matter! Seriously, this is the hardest thing to get over but once you stop caring about what people think you will be unstoppable. If you believe in yourself and your mission you have to pursue it until you can see your dream come to fruition.
4.You don’t want to help people
I firmly believe that we were each put on this earth with a specific purpose and we should be finding ways to help one another. Hopefully, your blog will provide useful information to your community out there.
5.You don’t like using social media
Here is where all the work after you hit publish comes in. These days you definitely need to have a social media presence. Instagram and Pinterest are huge in the blogging world. People want to get to know you more and you need to promote on various different networks to increase your visibility.
6.You don’t have time to learn new things
Unless you’re just a genius who was born with all the blogger knowledge, then you will have to take the time to learn new skills. Just uploading a blog on WordPress requires minor HTML coding skills. Fortunately, there are a ton of free or low-cost resources out there to keep your skills sharp.
7.You don’t have the time to start blogging
I personally live by the saying “You make time for what you want to make time for” that applies to everything! We all have excuses, even if they are good ones. We are all busy with careers, relationships, kids etc. But if you want your blog to be successful, you’ll have to make a sacrifice. You can find time to make your blog happen!
