Lifestyle Blogger Dominique Nicole is this week’s Boss Lady Spotlight! She is located in Dallas, TX. She’s a southern belle in her early 30s on a journey of self-discovery and love. Most of her writing comes from personal experiences and her thoughts on this funny adventure called life. She loves high heels, red wine, and sweets. I’m a Baylor Bear, momma to two kittens named Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson and a Pinterest fanatic!
What inspired you to start your blog?
I was inspired to start my blog because of a few friends. I would spend time talking to them just about their problems and life in general. I would expound upon these thoughts that would help bring a new sense of awareness to a situation and my friends thought I should share. So far I feel like it’s more just me slowly starting to pour out every emotion that I’ve ever held onto but it’s cathartic so I’m hanging on for the ride and seeing where it goes.
What was the hardest part about starting your blog?
The hardest part about starting my blog, well it was two things. First it was looking at so many of the blogs and seeing how much out there was fluff and gimmick. How much of everything was pushing products or tips or this influencer lifestyle as a lifestyle blogger and I was intimidated by that because I just wanted/want to write. Every article I was reading was pushing something and creating this box and it was like “No! No! No! I’ve been running all my life to get out of the box and now I’m jumping back in?” It was, and honestly, still is very difficult to make the business portion and the “I just want to write from my soul” aspects mesh. The second part was the exposure. I knew I wanted to be nothing less than authentic on my blog. I’d spent most of my life behind this obligatory mask and I wanted/ want nothing more than to be free of it. But that’s putting quite a few things out there for the world to see. I anguish over the publish buttons on personal post consistently.
Who are a few Boss Ladies that you look up to or that inspire you?
XO Nicole. She’s amazing. She went from sleeping on the floor inner aunt’s apartment to becoming an overwhelmingly successful gossip blogger. Then rebranded to women’s empowerment and is continuously making boss moves. Another woman I adore is Shanel Walker aka So So Shanel. She is a MUA and I actually just recently discovered her but she is amazing. She has grown her brand and business amazingly in such a short period of time and she is so authentic and down to earth. She inspires me because she wears her truth in a way that I’m aspiring to get to.
What is are 3 resources you can’t live without for your business?
Tailwind for Pinterest. Facebook for sharing in groups. A pen and notebook, though I’m still fairly young I do my best work with physical materials.
Did you feel prepared to become a lifestyle blogger? What helped you feel confident in starting your venture?
I did not feel prepared at all. I just kind of jumped out there. At the time I started my blog I was pretty much in a stage of sensory overload and just moving with the wind. To be fair I am one of those people that once I set my mind to it, it’s done. So what made me confident was my belief in myself. Even when I’m scared out of my mind I always pull something out of the hat.
What is your favorite quote?
Today is a good day for a good day.
How do you wish to impact your community/the world as a lifestyle blogger? What’s your ultimate goal?
My ultimate goal is to inspire people to live authentically. To be comfortable in their truth. I want people to do this responsibly though. People tend to want to live in their truth but not deal with any consequences. I want people to be comfortable in their truth but also understand that they are still apart of, and have a responsibility, to society as a whole. Once you become whole, you turn around and help others and not in that contemptuous “I’m so conscious and woke” mentality that some many people are running around with now.
Choose one:
- Cook or Eat out: Eat out – I really need to cook more. Have to get this fast food weight off before I get married.
- Online or In-Store shopping: Online – There are just too many people in the store. Too many.
- Book or Kindle: Book – There is nothing like turning the pages of a book. The satisfaction of getting to the end of a physical novel is amazing.
- Netflix or Hulu: Netflix – No commercials
- Sweet or Salty: Sweet!!!! I love cake. It’s really a shame.
- Heels or Sneakers: Heels. I’m only 4’11, I need the height!
