Choose a Blog Niche: How to pick a topic to blog about

Are you still in the early stages of starting your blog? You probably still need to choose a blog niche. If you’re still trying to figure out what you even want your blog to be about, this post will help! Everywhere you read about blogging, you will see the word “niche” soooo what is that anyways? Dictionary.com defines a niche as

a distinct segment of a market

Your niche is your specialty, its the are you specialize and surround your blog posts about. One of my favorite sites The Every Girl, doesn’t have a specific niche because they cover a wide range of topics, but most smaller blogs are specific. Anything you’re interested in is a niche. Whether its lifestyle, parenting, bird watching or knitting there is a community out there for you!

1.What are you passionate about/what are you interested in?

What is something that you’re really interested in and don’t get tired of talking about? Whatever you talk about on your blog, you’ll have to be Okay answering the same questions about the topic over and over again! Can you figure out ways to repurpose content easily? When you’re working your day job what are you always thinking about or researching? What topics are easy to talk about? When choose a blog niche lean towards those topics you can easily talk about and you don’t have to force the discussion.

2.What are you good at?

So the reality is what you’re good at might not always be what you’re passionate about or really interested in. This question is more so when you want to narrow down any kind of services you might want to offer. Even if you are really passionate about something if it is a struggle to talk about the topic or come up with new ideas you may want to consider another topic.

3.What problem can you solve?

This question also goes along with how can you serve people? If you focus on solving a problem and serving people everything else will fall into place. If you position yourself to help meet a need for people, then your audience will always be searching for the content you are putting out.

4.When you choose a blog niche, can you monetize it?

If you wan’t to just blog for fun as a hobby, then you don’t have to think too much about this. But if you do hope to make any kind of money from your blog, you’ll want to make sure you can brainstorm a few different ways to actually do this whether it is from ad revenue, sponsored posts, affiliate income, selling a physical or digital product or offering your services. You will also want to know what topics are already trending or successful. If you want to monetize your blog, you’ll want to make sure that your blog is self-hosted. 5.How can you bring something unique to the niche?

What’s special about your perspective? What life experiences shape your perspective? People will grow to love you when you show your personality and will keep coming back because of who you are! What you have to offer the world is unique to you and trying to be like anyone else is a disservice to yourself and your audience!
