Working from sounds like a pretty ideal situation for most people, but not everyone can be productive working from home. Whether you are working from home for a company or working from home for your own entrepreneurial endeavors, here are 10 Ways to be the Most Productive working from home.
Now to the 10 tips:
1.Keep a Morning Routine
Wake up at a decent time and actually start your day. Just because you’re working from doesn’t mean you should be working from the bed. Unless you are feeling under the weather, go ahead and get ready for the day as if you were actually going some where!
This means you need to wake up more than just 5 minutes before you need to be logged on your computer for work.
2.Change out of your PJs
Okay so maybe you don’t need to change into full business attire but at least put pants on! All of these tips come from personal experience and I was the queen of not getting dressed. I still don’t have super presentable outfits on, but I at least have on leggings and a new shirt! You know the saying — When you look good, you feel good!
3.Designate your space & keep it organized
Now that you look good, go ahead and go to a space in your home that is just for working. When you have an area that you already know is for work, it will help you mentally focus better. If I’m being honest, I don’t always work from my desk, depending on what I’m working on I sit at the couch. Occasionally I just need a small change in comfort and scenery.
I don’t know about you, but when my space is cluttered, I feel all over the place. Go ahead and keep your work space organized and give your brain the ability to function and focus on work.

4.Time Block
Treat your work hours like work hours. A rule of thumb is to make sure tht you are still available during core business hours. If your job is trusting you to work from home, make sure you get everything done! In fact, show that you can be even more productive while working from home so that you can keep the privilege and get more flexibility.
On the flip side, know when to cut your computer off! Don’t let it bleed into your personal life just because your computer is home. I have a full post linked here all about the steps I take to time block and why.
5.Set boundaries
It is so important that you let others know your limits/restrictions. A friend or family may hear that you work from home and assume that you’re available to run all random errands for them or even babysit. you have to be clear with your boundaries and stick to them. Even though you’re working from home, you’re still working and others should respect that.
6.Allow Yourself to have breaks
You are not a robot and it is not good for your mental health to just work through the day without taking a break! I’m thankful my dog forces me to get out at least once midday to get some fresh air, but even if you can escape for a little and take a walk around the block that will help.
Even if you don’t go outside, still take a few minutes for yourself.
7.Meal Prep
This one might seem odd, but just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you should be taking the time to cook a full 3 course meal. OK?! If you at least have your lunch picked out or prepped your day will continue as normal!

8.No Netflix Marathons
I mean, I think this one should be pretty self explanatory, but yeah — this is not the time to binge watch everything. Unless you are some super pro at multi-tasking this is not the time to catch up on Game of Thrones or Grey’s Anatomy. It is super tempting trust me, I’ve tried to convince myself that I could do both and it never ends up well!
9.Avoid your phone
Avoid your social media and set restrictions on your phone to keep you focused. Avoiding your phone will help you stay out of those booming group chats. I would recommend just putting your phone on “Do not Disturb” all together if you don’t have the best self control.
10.Switch up your work location
If you’ve done all the tricks above and still can’t seem to focus, switch up your location all together and go to a coffee shop, a library, or a co-working space that can help you refocus.
Ok that’s it! Those are all my go-to tips! Do you prefer working from home or in an office setting?
